A RAISIN in the SUN SYMBOLS and THEMES
Life back in South Side Chicago was segregated.South Side Chicago was not easy to live in the 1950's.The play"A RAISIN in the SUN" displays racism. "A RAISIN in the sun" is set in South Side of Chicago; The apartment wererun down and cheaply built. This was place that black peoplecould call home without being kicked around. This essay is about the is about the symbols in " A RAISIN in the SUN". Three symbols i found were the plant, the new baby, and Mr.Lindner.

The first symbol is the plant;the plant is a symbol  because is shows the struggles the Younger's are having living in South SIde Chicago. The plant needs sunlight to live, but not a lot of sunlight to live, but not a lot of it comes in too provided for the plant to live. The plant is holding on day byday with thelittle sunlighthas. The Younger's do not have a lot. just like the plant, but they moveon day by day. The Younger's area family full ofdreams that get deferred.

The second symbol is the baby. The baby is a symbol because it shows the new life the Younger's are given in the play. The new life is givien when Lena Younger(Mama) get the insurance check she got when her husbandpassed. With this money, she went out and bought a house outside of South Side. The new house is for Travis when he becomes amna. The house is located in an all white communlty called Cledurne Park. Lena descrides the house as a three bed room one bathroom. The yard is big enough for travis to play and a place to grow her own garden.

The third symbol is Mr.Lindner: Mr.Linderner is a symbol because he represented the tset. The test was for Walter to finally to finally to take over and become a man, not to except money fromMr.Lindner to show Travis (Walter som) what's right. Walter was going for the money until mama told him to do the deal in front of travis. The reason MrLindner was the test because Walter's dream had gotten crushed when he gave his fathers insurance money to Mr. Willie Harrison to invest in aliqor store that never happened Mama felt like it was time for hi, to face the facts that the money was gone. Walter stnads up and tells Travis to come here and tellMr.Lindne that he did not want his money and they will be moving into their house and they will be the best neighbos they can be.

The author of A RAISIN in the SUN is Lonaine Hansberry. She wrote this genre because her family tried to move into an all white neighborhood. She wrote this play because she wanted everyone to to know how it was to live in aplace that was segregated."A RAISIN in the SUN" had a lot of symbols that are clearly shown throughout the play. Three symbols that stand out to me are the plant, the new baby, and Mr.Lindner.These symbols stand out to me because they are clearlyshown.Hansberry made it easy to get a good picture in my head and it felt like I was really staying in the apartment with them. The struggles, the new llife, and the test played a big part in this play.It made the genre good from start to end
